“Stacking The Shelves” is a bookish meme hosted over at Tynga’s Reviews. This meme is used to showcase the books that you have recently bought and will be adding to your shelves, physical or in eBook format. This can also include review copies, library books, or borrowed books from friends.
Today’s post will be focusing on three books I recently brought in-store, alongside one book that was sent to me for review. If you do not follow me on Twitter, this post will be for you.
First off, the book I received for review:
America is rising from the ashes of a global catastrophe, but in the wasteland that was once the USA, only the strong can survive…
On May Day, 2018, sixty meteors entered the Earth’s atmosphere and exploded around the globe with a force greater than a nuclear blast. Earthquakes and tsunamis followed. Then China attacked Europe, Asia, and the United States in the belief the disaster was an act of war.
Washington D.C. was a casualty of the meteor onslaught that decimated the nation’s leadership and left the surviving elements of the armed forces to try and restore order as American society fell apart. As refugees across American band together and engage in open warfare with the military over scarce resources, a select group of individuals representing the surviving corporate structure makes a power play to rebuild the country in a free market image as The New Confederacy…
I accepted a copy of this to review as it was publicised as being perfect for those who are fans of Mad Max. Being of my generation (and not an overall fan of old films), I have only seen the more recent film with Tom Hardy. However, I couldn’t resist with that notion!
Now, onto the books I recently brought:
Darrow is the Reaper of Mars. Born to toil, carved to fight destined to lead. But he is a broken man. Exposed as a Red in a world ruled by Golds, he has been captured and tormented until he is something less than human. And yet, he is humanity’s last chance.
In facing a godlike, ruthless enemy, he must call on every last ounce of strength to prove that loyalty, friendship and love are more powerful than any coldhearted machine of war.
He has been first Red, then Gold. Now, he must transcend them all. He must become the hero his people believe he is.
The Vorrh is a vast – perhaps endless – forest, sentient and magical, a place of demons and angels, of warriors and priest. Legend holds that the Garden of Eden still exists at its heart. Now a renegade foreign solider intends to be the first human to traverse its expanse. Fact and fiction blend, the hunter will become the hunted, and humanity’s fate will hang in the balance.
In every generation on the island of Fennbirn a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown, all possessed of a coveted magic.
Mirabella, a fierce elemental, can spark hungry flames with a click of a finger.
Katharine, a poisoner, is known to be resistant to the deadliest of snake bites.
Arsinoe, a naturalist, is rumoured to have the ability to bloom the reddest of roses.
But becoming the Queen Crowned is not just a matter of royal birth. These three sisters must fight to the death for the throne, and on the night they turn sixteen the battle begins. Only one queen can inherit the crown.
